PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Cincinnati, Connecticut, DePaul and Providence split the season’s final BIG EAST outdoor track and field weekly awards as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. DePaul senior Tim Nedow was named Men’s BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week while Cincinnati sophomore Jessica Molyet was honored as the Women’s BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week. Connecticut freshman Claudio DelliCarpini was honored as Men’s BIG EAST Track Athlete of the Week as Providence senior Hannah Davidson was selected as the Women’s BIG EAST Track Athlete of the Week.
Nedow captured first place in both the shot put and the discus at the Drake Relays, setting new outdoor career-highs in both. His 19.69m shot put distance came in almost one meter further than the number two finisher while his 58.30m discus distance was over two meters better than the competition.
Molyet threw 48.80m, a personal best, to win the women’s discus competition at the Red Hawk Invitational. Her mark ranks fifth in the BIG EAST. She also finished sixth in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.70m.
DelliCarpini earned Men’s BIG EAST Track Athlete of the Week after he won the 110m hurdles at the University of New Hampshire Invitational. His time of 14.23 ranks seventh in the BIG EAST this season.
Davidson was named Women’s BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week after her first-pace in the 3000m steeplechase at the Penn Relays. Davidson crossed the line with 10:13.07 on the clock, 1.2 seconds ahead of the second place competitor. Her mark is the second fastest in the BIG EAST this season and ranks 16th nationally.
The 2012 BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships begin on Friday, May 4. The Championships will be held at the USF Track & Field Stadium in Tampa, Fla. For full coverage of the event checkout Championship Central
