LOUISVILLE, Ky. - College Swimming Awards has named the University of Louisville men’s swimming and diving program as the 2012 Break-Out Program of the Year. The Cardinals are coming off a Top Ten finish at the 2012 NCAA Championship that included Carlos Almeida winning the 200-breast.
The article accompanying the award said: “Looking at the progression of Coach Arthur Albiero and the Louisville Cardinals Swimming and Diving program, one could argue that this program has already had its break out moment or season based on the amount of success they have experienced this decade. Upon arrival, Albiero’s impact has been made prevalent as Louisville has marched from a conference to national level program during his nine seasons as head swimming coach.”
U of L sent three men to the 2012 London Games with Carlos Almeida and Pedro Oliveira representing Portugal and Joao De Lucca swimming for Brazil. Albiero is the co-coach of the Portuguese Olympic Team.
