LAST NIGHT IN THE BIG EAST
Last night the BIG EAST went 4-2 in nonconference competition. Rutgers, picked to finish last in the BIG EAST preseason rankings, defeated Lafayette in three sets for its fifth straight win as the Scarlet Knights improved to 7-1.
Pittsburgh and Seton Hall also won in three sets as the Panthers swept Cleveland State and the Pirates knocked off Hofstra. UConn grabbed another win, defeating Hartford 3-1.
HOME SWEET HOME
Of the eleven BIG EAST schools that have played at home thus far, seven of them own a winning record and four are undefeated. Rutgers is now 4-0 at College Avenue Gymnasium, followed by Pittsburgh (3-0), Notre Dame (2-0) and St. John’s (1-0).
EARLY SEASON SUCCESS
Through two weeks of play, 10 schools have a winning record in the BIG EAST. Against the rest of the NCAA, the conference holds a 60-31 mark.
THE WEEK AHEAD
The BIG EAST Conference returns to action this weekend beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday as Syracuse travels to Iowa for the Iowa State Tournament. Overall, 14 teams will compete in 13 tournaments throughout the weekend.
