Saturday’s game will be the eighth meeting between Temple and Maryland in a series that dates to 1997 … The Owls picked up their first win against the Terrapins last year, when Temple was a 38-7 winner in College Park, Md. … The Owls rode a five-touchdown effort from RB Bernard Pierce, who rushed for 149 yards on 32 carries, while Temple limited Maryland to just 240 total yards … Temple is 0-3 all-time against Maryland in Philadelphia.

Temple made a successful return to BIG EAST football last Friday as the Owls scored a 41-10 win against Villanova in the last game of the Mayor’s Cup series at Lincoln Financial Field … The Owls churned out 301 rushing yards and had three rushing touchdowns to go with a touchdown reception, a defensive TD and a pair of field goals … Much was made about the transfer of RB Montel Harris — the active career rushing leader among FBS players (3,747 yards), but it was senior RB Matt Brown who was the story against Villanova … Brown rushed for 145 yards and a TD on 19 carries, turning in his 10th career 100-yard game … QB Chris Coyer threw for just 61 yards on 5-of-11 passing, but rushed for 80 yards and had both a rushing and passing touchdown … Brown’s 270 all-purpose yards are good for third nationally through the first week of the season … Brown had 84 yards on four punt returns and 41 yards on three kickoff returns … Temple’s defense registered four sacks and forced two turnovers … Temple’s five-game winning streak is the longest active streak among BIG EAST members.

Maryland comes in at 1-0 following a 7-6 win against William & Mary in the season-opener last week in College Park … It was the first time that Maryland won while scoring seven or fewer points since a 6-0 win against Temple in 1999 … Maryland trailed for most of the game, but got the go-ahead score on a 6-yard TD by RB Justus Pickett with 9:51 left in the fourth quarter …The Terrapins were dealt a blow in the preseason when projected starting QB C.J. Brown went down with a knee injury and was lost for the season … Maryland was without 10 potential starters last week against William & Mary … QB Perry Hillis started last week, becoming Maryland’s first true freshman to start at quarterback since 1999 … Hills completed 16 of 24 passes for 145 yards and was intercepted three times … DE Joe Vellano was an All-ACC First Team choice last year … Maryland coach Randy Edsall coached in the BIG EAST for seven years as part of his 12-year stint at Connecticut … The Terrapins face Connecticut next week in College Park in the second of back-to-back games against BIG EAST opponents.
