Connecticut looks to rebound from a 10-7 loss to North Carolina State which evened the Huskies’ record at 1-1 … Connecticut’s calling card through two games has been its defense — the Huskies lead the nation in rushing defense (28.5 yards per game) and are third nationally in both total defense (158.5 ypg) and scoring defense (5.00 ppg) … The Huskies have allowed just one touchdown in their first two games and didn’t allow their Week 1 opponent (Massachusetts) to cross midfield … LB Yawin Smalwood enters Saturday’s game as the BIG EAST leader in tackles for loss (5.5), while DE Trevardo Williams leads the league with 3.5 sacks … The offensive standout is RB Lyle McCombs, who is averaging 71.0 rushing yards per game and has two touchdowns in 2012 … QB Chandler Whitmer has thrown for 423 yards and has completed 57.7 percent of his passes, but has thrown five interceptions and is looking for his first touchdown pass of the year … WR Geramy Davis has team highs of seven receptions and 106 receiving yards … WR Nick Williams is a threat on offense and special teams with an average of 121.5 all-purpose yards per game.

Maryland comes in at 2-0 following a 36-27 win against Temple last week in Philadelphia … The Terrapins opened with a 7-6 win against William & Mary in College Park, Md. … Maryland has equalled its wins total from last season … QB Perry Hillis is Maryland’s first true freshman to start at quarterback since 1999 … Hills was named the ACC Rookie of the Week Monday following his performance at Temple, when he completed 11 of 21 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns to go with one rushing TD … WR Marcus Leak has six receptions for 127 yards and a touchdown, while WR Stefon Diggs has six catches for 89 yards … The top rusher is RB Justus Pickett, who has 114 rushing yards and two TDs in two games … DE Joe Vellano, an All-ACC First Team choice last year, has a team-high five tackles for loss to start 2012 … LB Demetrius Hartsfield leads the team with 17 tackles and two fumble recoveries … Hartsfield also has an interception, a sack and two tackles for loss … The Terrapins had three sacks and seven tackles for loss last week against Temple.
