Georgetown Giving Back
At Sunday’s game against the University of Pennsylvania, the Hoyas will be participating in Lace-Up 4 Pediatric Cancer by wearing the shoelaces and donating a portion of the gate proceeds to the organization.Additionally, at halftime Dr. Jeff Toretsky and other representatives from the Lombardi Cancer Center and Go4theGoal will be introduced and their mission will be publicized. On August 28, the Georgetown University men’s soccer team and coaching staff visited the clinic and lab at the Lombardi Cancer Center located on campus. Following that visit, the team made a commitment to begin work with the cancer center and those involved in the research to fight pediatric cancer. Georgetown’s first step was to team up with Go4theGoal’s Lace-Up 4 Pediatric Cancer awareness campaign.
Top 25 Matchup
No. 10/12 St. John’s will play at No. 9/9 Akron on Friday, Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Red Storm are unbeaten in six games (5-0-1) and are coming off a 2-1 win against William & Mary.
Big Win for Louisville
Louisville defeated No. 15/17 Wake Forest 3-2 at home in double-overtime on Sept. 11. Senior Ryan Smith scored the gamewinner in the 105th minute off an assist from Marlon Hairston.
DePaul Picks Up a Win
Brian Schultz made the most of his instant replay. After a back-heel kick in front of the Loyola (Chicago) net was deflected by goalkeeper Peter McKeown, Schultz knocked in the rebound to give DePaul a 2-1 victory over its intra-city rival at Wish Field.
National Rankings
Notre Dame jumped from No. 17 from last week’s NSCAA poll to No. 8 after starting the season 5-0-0. The Irish are back in action on Friday when they host Michigan State at 7 p.m. ET. Connecticut (4-0-1) leads the BIG EAST in the NSCAA poll at No. 4. St. John’s (5-0-1), USF (4-1-0 and Georgetown (5-0-1) are at No. 10, 11 and 12, respectively, while No. 17 Marquette (5-0-0) rounds out the league’s ranked members. Louisville and Syracuse both received votes.
This Weekend’s Tournaments
No. 11/15 USF is competing in the Akron Tournament this weekend, while Syracuse will be playing at the UNLV Nike Invitational. The Bulls will play Butler on Sept. 14 at 4:30 before competing against host Akron on Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. The Orange will play at UNLV on Friday at 10 p.m. and match up against Cal State Fullerton on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
