PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Three freshmen have earned BIG EAST women’s soccer weekly awards announced for the sixth week of the season. Notre Dame freshman Cari Roccaro earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Marquette freshman Amanda Engel was tabbed BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week and DePaul freshman Elise Wyatt was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week. Veteran Georgetown junior Emily Menges was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week.

 

Roccaro earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors after totaling five points, including two goals in a 2-0-0 week. The freshman factored into three of the team’s five scores last week. Roccaro had a goal in a 2-1 win over Pittsburgh on Sept. 21. The forward had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over Oakland on Sept. 23. She has seven points, including three goals in just four games since returning to the Irish from the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

 

Engel earned BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week honors after totaling seven saves in two shutout wins over conference opponents. The freshman had two saves in 66 minutes in a 4-0 shutout against Seton Hall on Sept. 21. Engel made five saves in a 2-0 shutout over Rutgers on Sept. 23.

 

Wyatt was cited as the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week with five points in a 2-0-0 week. The freshman had an assist in a 2-0 win over St. Louis on Sept. 20. Wyatt scored her first collegiate goals in a 4-0 win over Pittsburgh on Sept. 23.

 

Menges was tabbed BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Hoyas secure a pair of shutouts against conference opponents in a 2-0-0 week. She played the full 180 minutes last week and led the backline in a 4-0 win over UConn on Sept. 21 and a 1-0 win against Providence on Sept. 23. Menges also recorded an assist in the UConn victory.

Kaitlin Brenn, Georgetown, Jr., F

Scored a goal in a 4-0 win over UConn on Sept. 21 and a goal in a 1-0 win over Providence on Sept. 23.

Ally Miller, Marquette, Sr., M

Anchored a defense that had two shutouts; a 4-0 win over Seton Hall on Sept. 21 and a 2-0 win over Rutgers on Sept. 23.

Katie Naughton, Notre Dame, Fr., D

Helped the Irish in a 2-0-0 week, including a 2-1 win over Pittsburgh on Sept. 21 and a 3-0 win over Oakland on Sept. 23; Oakland was held without a shot on goal.

Kylie Nordness, DePaul, Jr., D

Anchored a defense that had two shutouts; a 2-0 win over St. Louis on Sept. 20 and a 4-0 win over Pittsburgh on Sept. 23.

Erin Yenney, Louisville, So., M

Had five points in a 1-0-1 week, two goals and an assist; recorded three points in a 6-0 win against St. John’s on Sept. 23.

NCAA LEADERBOARD - UConn senior Danielle Schulmann, who leads the league with 25 points, also ranks third nationally. The forward has registered at least one point in nine of 11 games this year and scored nine goals. A native of Saddle River, N.J., Schulmann led the Huskies with 15 points and seven goals last year.

 

SENIOR CLASS AWARD – Marquette’s Ally Miller was named to the Senior CLASS Award list on Sept. 18. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. The list will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season.
