PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Louisville sophomore Sebastian Stiefelmeyer and Notre Dame junior Britney Sanders were named BIG EAST Men’s Tennis Player of the Month and BIG EAST Women’s Tennis Player of the Month, respectively.
Stiefelmeyer entered the season ranked No. 70 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles rankings and finished 6-2 in singles and 4-2 in doubles for the month of September. The sophomore was a runner-up in the Gold Division at the UVA Ranked+1 Invitational and picked up a win over No. 43 Jamie Whitford of William & Mary in the Duke Fab4 Invite. In doubles, Stiefelmeyer teamed with classmate Albert Wagner to finish third at the Duke Fab4 Invite. The duo upset No. 33 Danill Proskura and Carlos Taborga of Alabama in the first round. Stiefelmeyer was also paired with freshman Austin Siegel at the UVA Ranked+1 Invitational, where the doubles team grabbed another third-place finish.
Sanders, ranked No. 98 in the fall ITA rankings, posted a 3-0 singles record and 4-0 doubles mark. The junior swept the season-opening Adidas Hoosier Classic, which included a win over No. 50 Leslie Hureau of Indiana. In doubles action, Sanders was paired with classmate Julie Sabacinski. The duo, ranked No. 36 in nationally, claimed the doubles title at the Hoosier Classic.
