Wednesday Night in the BIG EAST
Cincinnati lost in five sets to crosstown rival Xavier last night by the scores of 25-23, 26-28, 21-25, 26-24 and 9-15. With the loss, the Bearcats drop to 4-13 overall. Senior Jordanne Scott, the team’s leader in kills, had a match-high 22 and has 279 kills on the season. Joining her in double-digits was classmate Emily Hayden with 11. Junior Emily MacIntyre led all defenders with 32 digs and senior Rachel Rohlfs had a team-high 27 assists.
As of Oct. 2, two individuals from BIG EAST schools rank within the top-10 in three of the seven major categories. Senior Lola Arslanbekova of Louisville ranks sixth in the nation in kills per set and ninth in points per set, averaging 4.81 and 5.25 respectively and sophomore Lindsey Gosh of Marquette averages 0.52 aces per set to rank ninth.
Seton Hall and Louisville represent the BIG EAST nationally in team categories and both rank in the top-10 in winning percentage. The Pirates are ranked eighth with a 15-2 record and .882 winning percentage while the Cardinals are tied with four others in ninth with a 14-2 record and .875 winning percentage.
BIG EAST in the Poll
After posting a 2-0 week, Louisville remains No. 17 in the AVCA Top-25 Poll for the week of Oct. 1 while Marquette received votes for the third time this season.
What to Watch
No. 17 Louisville is set to host Seton Hall on Oct. 6. The Cardinals and Pirates are both 3-1 in conference play, while Seton Hall holds a slight advantage in overall
record, recording just one more win than Louisville. Both teams have just two losses on the season.
