Louisville’s Arslanbekova Earns Volleyball Player of the Week Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Lola Arslanbekova of No. 13 Louisville was named volleyball BIG EAST Player of the Week after leading her team to two wins, including a 3-1 victory against Marquette on Oct. 21. Connecticut freshman Marissa Prinzbach led the Huskies to a 2-0 week to earn her first BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors.

Arslanbekova averaged a conference-best 6.00 kills per set in two matches. In a 3-0 win against Syracuse on Oct. 19, she posted 18 kills with just four errors for a .368 hitting percentage. The senior added 12 digs defensively to complete the double-double performance. On Oct. 21, the Cardinals handed Marquette its first BIG EAST loss of the season as Arslanbekova accounted for 24 kills on .328 hitting and 12 digs. In two matches, she averaged 6.00 kills and 3.43 digs per set with a .344 hitting percentage.

Prinzbach led Connecticut’s offense in two wins on the road last week. In a 3-2 victory against USF on Oct. 19, the freshman dished out 50 assists, recorded 18 digs and tallied four kills without registering an error. The next time out she posted a 48-assist match with six digs and three blocks in a 3-1 win against Pittsburgh on Oct. 21. Prinzbach averaged 10.89 assists per set in two matches last week.

Weekly Honor Roll:

Immanuella Anagu, Connecticut, Fr., MB

Anagu averaged 2.78 kills per set and hit .525 during a 2-0 week; tallied 15 kills on 21 attempts with only one error against USF on Oct. 19.

Holly Mertens, Marquette, Sr., RS

Mertens hit .472 in two wins and averaged 4.43 kills per set; had 18 kills on 25 attempts and just two errors against Cincinnati on Oct. 19.

Maggie Brindock, Notre Dame, Jr., S

Brindock averaged 9.83 assists per set in a 2-0 week; recorded a total of eight kills on 13 attempts without an error.

Shelbey Manthorpe, Seton Hall, So., S

Manthorpe recorded a triple-double in a 3-2 win against Rutgers on Oct. 19; notched 16 kills on .316 hitting with 27 assists and 12 digs.

Erin Fairs, USF, Fr., OH

Fairs recorded two double-doubles in two matches last week; averaged 3.89 kills and 3.67 digs per set with a .303 hitting percentage.
