THE GAME
Rutgers and Kent State will meet for just the third time Saturday as the schools renew acquaintances for the first time since the 2004 season … Rutgers is 2-0 all-time against Kent State, having won previous matchups in 1994 (28-6) and 2004 (29-21) … Rutgers is 13-4-1 all-time against opponents from the Mid-American Conference, including a 38-26 win against Ohio last season … BIG EAST teams are 4-3 against the MAC this season.

Rutgers is 7-0 for the first time since 2006 after a 35-10 win at Temple last Saturday … The Scarlet Knights have won eight straight, dating to last year’s victory against Iowa State in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl, and have the nation’s fourth-longest active winning streak … Only Alabama (11), Oregon (10) and Mississippi State (nine) have more consecutive wins than the Scarlet Knights … Rutgers is 4-0 in BIG EAST play for the second time in school history (2006) … Kyle Flood is the only head coach in school history to win his first seven games … The Scarlet Knights rank third nationally in rushing defense (69.1 ypg), less than a year after they finished seventh in the BIG EAST in that category … Rutgers is third nationally in scoring defense (11.3 ppg) … RB Jawan Jamison leads the BIG EAST in rushing at 112.7 yards per game … Jamison has rushed for at least 100 yards in six of his seven games this season … QB Gary Nova has thrown for 1,518 yards and a league-leading 15 touchdowns with three interceptions … LB Khaseem Greene, the 2011 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, leads the team with 67 tackles to go with 3.5 sacks, 5.5 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles and two interceptions … Greene’s four forced fumbles tie him for the national lead … Rutgers is third nationally in turnover margin (+2.0 per game).

Kent State takes a five-game winning streak into its game at Rutgers as the Golden Flashes stand at 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the MAC … Kent State was a 41-24 winner against Western Michigan last Saturday … The Flashes trailed 24-17 in the third quarter, but scored 24 unanswered points to close the game … The only loss on Kent State’s ledger is a 47-14 setback at Kentucky Sept. 8 … RB/WR Dri Archer enters the game as the national leader in all-purpose yards (212.9 ypg) and is averaging 47.7 yards on kickoff returns — the best mark in the nation … Archer is third nationally in scoring at 12.0 points per game and has three touchdowns on kickoff returns alone … Archer has eight rushing touchdowns and three touchdown receptions as well … RB Trayion Durham has seven rushing TDs and is averaging 92.7 rushing yards per game … QB Spencer Keith has thrown for 1,042 yards and six touchdowns against three interceptions … The Golden Flashes have forced 10 interceptions on defense … LB Luke Batton has a team-high 71 tackles to go with three fumble recoveries.
