PROVIDENCE, R.I. – With fall golf schedules wrapping up, Notre Dame freshman Lindsey Weaver was named BIG EAST Women’s Golf Player of the Month and Connecticut freshman Zach Zaback was tabbed BIG EAST Men’s Golf Player of the Month.
Weaver took the BIG EAST Women’s Golf Player of the Month award after impressive showings at The Windy City Collegiate Classic Oct. 1-2 , the Susie Maxwell Classic Oct. 15-17 and the Landfall Tradition Oct. 26-28 . The freshman shot one under par with a score of 215 (70-71-74), finishing tied for second of 81 competitors at the Windy City Collegiate at the Glen View Golf Club in Golf, Ill. The field at the Windy City Collegiate included 27 nationally ranked players. Weaver led the Fighting Irish to a second-place finish at the Susie Maxell Classic in Norman, Okla., with a score of 211 (68-72-71) to finish five under par and tied for second place. Weaver out shot 15 of 16 ranked players at the Jimmy Austin OU Golf Club. The freshman tied for third at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C., with a score of 70 (-2) in the first and only round at the Country Club of Landfall. As of Oct. 30, Weaver stands fourth in the nation according to GolfWeek with a 332-9-3 record.
Zaback earns BIG EAST Men’s Golf Player of the Month honors by notching a pair of top-10 finishes. The freshman shot a 211 (73-69-69) to finish five under par and take first place at the Connecticut Cup on Oct. 8-9 at the Ellington Ridge Country Club in Ellington, Conn. The Huskies finished third overall at the Connecticut Cup. Zaback shot a 217 (71-73-73) at the Wendy’s Kiawah Classic on Oct. 28-30 in Kiawah Island, S.C., finishing tied for sixth out of 135 on the par 71 Turtle Point Golf Course.
