PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Lola Arslanbekov of Louisville was named BIG EAST Volleyball Player of the Week for the final week of the 2012 regular season. It marks the fifth time the BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year has earned the award this season. Freshman Monika Salkute of Syracuse was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for her performance in a 2-0 week.

Arslanbekova led the Cardinals to consecutive wins over Marquette and Cincinnati. In the 3-0 sweep against the Golden Eagles on Nov. 9, she tallied 15 kills on 31 attempts for a .355 hitting percentage. She added two digs and two block assists in the match. On Nov. 11 against the Bearcats, the senior recorded 13 kills in three sets with seven digs and one solo block. In the two wins, she averaged 4.67 kills and 2.17 digs per set with a .290 hitting percentage.

Salkute earned her first BIG EAST Freshman of the Week award as the Orange defeated Villanova on Nov. 9 and Seton Hall on Nov. 11. The freshman had 16 kills on 32 attempts and only two errors on the week for a .421 hitting percentage. She also added 19 total blocks. In the 3-2 win against the Pirates, Salkute tallied a double-double with 10 kills and 13 total blocks. She did not record an error and hit .556.

Weekly Honor Roll:

Mattison Quayle, Connecticut, Sr., OH

Quayle averaged 4.12 kills, 1.12 digs and 1.00 block per set in a 2-0 week; registered 19 kills against USF on Nov. 9.

Vesela Zapryanova, DePaul, Jr., OH

Zapryanova averaged 4.50 kills and 2.12 digs per set in a 2-0 week; recorded a double-double with 19 kills and 10 digs against St. John’s on Nov. 9.

Holly Mertens, Marquette, Sr., RS

Mertens hit .348 with 4.00 kills per set in two matches; tallied 11 kills and just three errors in a 3-0 sweep against Notre Dame on Nov. 11.

Toni Alugbue, Notre Dame, So., OH

Alugbue had two double-doubles in a 1-1 week; tallied 22 kills and 11 digs with a .348 hitting percentage in a 3-2 win against Cincinnati on Nov. 9.

Monica Wignot, Pittsburgh, Jr., OH

Wignot averaged 2.64 kills per set with a .311 hitting percentage during a 3-0 week; recorded just six errors on 74 attempts in three matches.
