THE GAME
Saturday’s game will be the fifth meeting between USF and Miami … The Hurricanes are 3-1 against the Bulls after they took a 6-3 win in Tampa last season … The last two meetings have been nailbiters as Miami got the winning field goal as time expired last year, while USF scored a 23-20 overtime win in 2010 … USF is 1-1 on the road against Miami.
USF (3-6, 1-4 BIG EAST)
Head Coach
Skip Holtz (Notre Dame ’86)
16-17, third season at USF
88-67, 13th season as collegiate head coach
NOTES
USF snapped a school-record six-game losing streak with a 13-6 win against Connecticut Nov. 3 … The Bulls were idle last week … USF entered the game against Connecticut as the only FBS team in the nation without a defensive interception, but the Bulls registered two key fourth-quarter interceptions against the Huskies … The win came at a heavy cost, however, as QB B.J. Daniels —who ranks third on the BIG EAST’s career total offense chart (10,501 yards) — suffered a season-ending ankle injury against the Huskies … The starting nod against Miami will likely go to either QB Bobby Eveld, who engineered the come-from-beind win against the Hurricanes in 2010, or freshman QB Matt Floyd, who finished the win against Connecticut this season … The Bulls will likely be without five regular offensive starters — Daniels, OG Mark Popek, OG Danous Estenor and TE Evan Landi did not practice Sunday … RB Lindsey Lamar, who is the team’s second-leading rusher, is out with a broken collarbone … RB Demetris Murray is the top rusher with 476 yards and five touchdowns this season … WR Andre Davis has team highs with 38 receptions, 478 receiving yards and six touchdown catches … LB DeDe Lattimore has a team-high 3.5 sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss … K Maikon Bonani is 13-for-15 on field goal attempts and has made his last eight kicks.
MIAMI (FLA.) (5-5; 4-3 ACC)
Head Coach
Al Golden (Penn State ’91)
11-11, second season at Miami
38-45, seventh season as collegiate head coach
NOTES
Miami comes in at 5-5 following a 41-40 loss to Virginia last weekend in Charlottesville, Va. … The Cavaliers got the winning points with six seconds remaining to rally from a 10-point deficit … Miami leads the ACC Coastal Division at 4-3 in conference play and needs one win to become bowl-eligible. … The Hurricanes are 1-4 in their last five games … RB Duke Johnson ranks third nationally in kickoff returns (35.4 ypr) and ninth in all-purpose yards (168.8 per game) … Johnson has rushed for 705 yards and six touchdowns and is averaging 6.4 yards per carry … QB Stephen Morris has thrown for 2,563 yards and 15 touchdowns with seven interceptions … WR Phillip Dorsett has a team-leading 42 receptions for 648 yards and four TDs … DE Shayon Green is the leading tackler with 60 stops … DE Anthony Chickillo has four sacks and six tackles for loss … CB Brandon McGee has two interceptions.
