WBB Minute – No. 2/2 UConn at No. 16/13 Texas A&M Sunday

Sunday on ESPN2, No. 2/2 Connecticut (1-0) takes on No. 16/13 Texas A&M at 2:30 p.m. The Huskies won last year’s matchup 81-51 in the Jimmy V Classic at the XL Center on Dec. 6, 2011. UConn has won 41 games in a row during the month of November dating back to a 71-65 loss to then-No. 9/12 North Carolina on Nov. 21, 2004.

 

Also on Sunday, No. 7/6 Notre Dame (1-0) welcomes UMass at 2 p.m., while Providence (1-1) is at Virginia and Marquette (1-0) is at Georgia Tech. All three games tipoff at 2 p.m.

 

Following a perfect 3-0 start to the weekend, BIG EAST teams are a combined 26-9 on the year for a .743 winning percentage.

 

On Friday, Syracuse (3-0) won at Cornell 80-35. Senior center Kayla Alexander scored 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. She has recorded a double-double in each of the team’s first three games this year. The Orange ran out to a 31-14 halftime lead and were never threatened leading by as many as 51.

 

On Saturday, St. John’s (2-1) topped Hofstra 73-47 at home. Senior guards Shenneika Smith and Nadirah McKenith led the way for the Red Storm. Smith had 18 points and 15 rebounds, while McKenith scored a game-high 24 points. St. John’s held Hofstra to just 28-percent shooting and just 16 second-half points.

 

DePaul (2-1) beat Howard 68-51 at home. Sophomore Brittany Hrynko led the Blue Demons with 18 points. DePaul held Howard to just 18 first-half points and cruised to the win.
