BIG EAST teams went 4-3 on a busy Tuesday that was capped by a thrilling matchup between Georgetown and top-ranked Indiana in the championship game of the Progressive Legends Classic. The Hoyas too the Hoosiers to overtime before falling 82-72, but clearly staked their claim for a top-25 ranking when the next polls are compiled.
Marquette began the day with an 89-62 win against Mississippi State in the EA Sports Maui Invitational. The Golden Eagles will also get Wednesday’s busy slate started as they face USC at 5 p.m. on ESPN2.
Elsewhere, Cincinnati and USF scored wins on their home courts as the Bearcats improved to 4-0 with a 91-72 win against Campbell and the Bulls turned in their best effort of the year with an 82-63 decision against Bradley.
Wednesday’s ledger is highlighted by the semifinal round of the NIT Season Tip-Off at Madison Square Garden. Pittsburgh takes a 4-0 record into its 9:30 p.m. matchup against No. 4 Michigan on ESPN2. The winner will face either Delaware or Kansas State Friday in the championship game.
DePaul meets Western Kentucky in the consolation game of the Cancun Challenge at 7 p.m. on the CBS Sports Network.
Four BIG EAST teams play in their home gyms tonight. Notre Dame hosts George Washington (7 p.m., ESPN3), Seton Hall entertains Maine (7 p.m.), Syracuse gets a visit from Ivy League favorite Princeton (7 p.m., BIG EAST Network) and St. John’s welcomes Holy Cross to Carnesecca Arena (7:30 p.m., BIG EAST Network).
