An eventful Saturday in the BIG EAST saw three of the league’s top-25 teams fall to conference opponents. Marquette scored a 49-48 win against No. 15/16 Georgetown to improve to 2-0 in BIG EAST play, while St. John’s and Rutgers evened their league marks at 1-1.
St. John’s edged No. 14/15 Cincinnati 53-52 on the road, while Rutgers was a 67-62 winner against No. 24/22 Pittsburgh at the Rutgers Athletic Center.
Underscoring how competitive the BIG EAST figures to be this season, of the eight teams that have played two BIG EAST games thus far, only Marquette has come away with two wins. Three of the 11 league games that have been played were decided by one point. Two others were decided in overtime.
The only team that has not yet played a BIG EAST league game, USF begins its 18-game conference slate Sunday afternoon with a visit from Syracuse.
The Bulls take a 9-3 record into Sunday’s game and are riding a four-game winning streak. The Orange counter at 13-1 and have won three in a row.
