BIG EAST Player of the Week
Kayla McBride, Notre Dame, Jr., G (Erie, Pa.)
McBride averaged 20.0 points, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game with a .531 field goal percentage as Notre Dame picked up two wins last week, including a win at No. 1/1 Connecticut. McBride started her week with 19 points (on 7-of-11 shooting) and four steals in just 16 minutes against Saint Francis (Pa.). McBride scored a career-high (and game-high) 21 points and adding three assists as Notre Dame defeated a top-ranked team on its home court for the first time in school history.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Brittney Sykes, Syracuse, Fr., G (Newark, N.J.)
Sykes earns her second Freshman of the Week honor in as many weeks after recording 19 points, nine rebounds and three steals in a win at Marquette. Sykes shot 56 percent from the floor (5-of-9) and 90 percent from the free throw line (9-of-10) to help the Orange pick up their conference-opening game. She scored four of the Orange’s last six points in the final minute to secure the victory.
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, Connecticut, So., F
Mosqueda-Lewis had 19 points, four assists and five rebounds in a win at Oregon and added 17 points and eight rebounds in a one-point loss to No. 5/5 Notre Dame. She shot 57 percent from the floor for the week.
Brittany Hrynko, DePaul, So., G
Hrynko had 21 points, seven assists, four rebounds and four steals in DePaul’s win against No. 11/10 Louisville.
Sugar Rodgers, Georgetown, Sr., G
Rodgers recorded the program’s first triple-double with 33 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists in a win at Providence. She added 21 points in a win against Temple.
Monique Reid, Louisville, Sr., F
Reid averaged 22.5 ppg, shooting 61 percent in a 1-1 week for Louisville. She leads the league shooting 58 percent from the field.
Alexandra Maseko, Seton Hall, Sr., F
Maseko had a career-high 16 points and added 10 rebounds in the Pirates’ win against Pittsburgh.

Notre Dame Pulls Out One-Point Win Over UConn On CBS
The No. 5/5 Fighting Irish won at No. 1/1 UConn 73-72 in a nationally televised game on CBS held in Gampel Pavilion. Junior Kayla McBride set a career-high with 21 points. It marked the first time in school history the Fighting Irish have defeated a top-ranked team on its home floor. Notre Dame also earned its first win at Gampel Pavilion on the Connecticut campus since Jan. 30, 2005. Notre Dame and Connecticut were playing for the 12th time since 2009-10 and the ninth time in the past two-plus seasons (2010-11 to present). The teams meet in the regular-season finale on March 4 at 7 p.m. on ESPN2 in Notre Dame.
A Sweet Triple-Double
Georgetown defeated Providence 79-64 on Jan. 5 as senior Sugar Rodgers posted the first triple-double in program history with 33 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists, to go along with six steals. She shot 13-of-24 from the field. Rodgers’ feat marks just the 18th triple-double in BIG EAST Conference history and the first for the conference this season. Only four players in NCAA history have had more points in a triple-double.
Seton Hall Wins BIG EAST Opener
The Pirates won their league opener for the first time since Jan. 5, 2008 when the team began league play 2-0 and won three of their first four BIG EAST games.
Caroline Coyer Remains Calm
Villanova defeated Cincinnati on the road 54-51 on Jan. 6. Freshman Caroline Coyer hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 21 seconds left and then sank two free throws with six seconds remaining to lead the Wildcats. Coyer finished with 10 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Jersey Girls Perform in the NJ/NY Rivalry
St. John’s won at Rutgers 48-44 on Jan. 6 in both teams’ conference opener. The Red Storm’s Newark, N.J., contingent shined in their home state, as rookie guard Aliyyah Handford and senior Nadirah McKenith tallied 10 points each. Sophomore Amber Thompson made two free throws with 14 seconds left to ice the game. Thompson finished with seven points, five rebounds and went 3-for-4 from the foul line.
