PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Notre Dame freshman Quentin Monaghan was named BIG EAST Player of the Week in men’s tennis and Syracuse sophomore Amanda Rodgers was named BIG EAST Player of the Week in women’s tennis in the second weekly awards of the spring 2013 season.
Monaghan went 2-1 in singles play last week. The freshman defeated Nicky Hu of No. 28 Harvard 6-4, 6-4 and Lukas Vrnak of No. 31 Memphis 7-6 (2), 6-2. His win over Vrnak helped the Fighting Irish claim a 4-0 win over Memphis.
Rodgers was perfect in singles and doubles play last week. She went 2-0 in singles from the No. 3 position with wins against Boston College (6-2, 7-5) and Navy (6-4, 6-3). The sophomore was also 2-0 in doubles with her partner Komal Safdar. The duo won 8-6 against Boston College and 8-4 against Navy as the Orange defeated Navy 6-1.
