Updated BIG EAST Notes
Just one game was on the schedule for Super Bowl Sunday as USF (15-6, 4-4 BIG EAST) evened its league record at 4-4 following a 78-60 win at Pittsburgh. It was the Bulls’ first win at Pitt since joining the league in 2005-06.
USF seniors Andrea and Andrell Smith each scored 15 points and all five starters finished in double figures. The Bulls led 43-33 at halftime.
Pitt got 19 points from junior Asia Logan and 16 more from sophomore Brianna Kiesel. Pittsburgh (9-12, 0-8 BIG EAST) has lost eight in a row. Pitt’s last win against a BIG EAST team came on March 4, 2011 in the BIG EAST Championship in Hartford, Conn. The Panthers are looking for their first BIG EAST regular season win since Feb. 15, 2011.
In addition, the BIG EAST has four active head coaches with 600+ wins, more than any other conference. Stringer leads the way with 898 career wins, followed by UConn’s Geno Auriemma at 824, McGraw with 699 and Villanova’s Harry Perretta at 633. On Tuesday, McGraw and Perretta meet combining for more than 1,300 wins.
