PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Louisville kicked off spring golf weekly awards with freshman Robin Sciot-Siegrist being named BIG EAST Men’s Golf Player of the Week and senior Candice Wiley taking BIG EAST Women’s Golf Player of the Week honors.
Sciot-Siegrist was tabbed for men’s honors after finishing tied for sixth at the USF Invitational at the Lake Jovita course on March 3-5. The freshman finished with a score of 214 (70-74-70) on the 72-par course. Sciot-Siegrist led the Cardinals to a tenth place team finish out of 18.
Wiley earned BIG EAST Women’s Golf Player of the Week honors with a 12th-place finish at the Sir Pizza Terrapin Challenge in Miami, Fla., on Feb. 25-26. The senior shot 223 (73-73-76) on the 72-par Senator Course to lead the Cardinals to a sixth-place finish out of 16 teams.
BIG EAST Golf Notebook:
· Marquette men off to quick start at the Match Play
o The Golden Eagles used an undefeated day in match play to down Cleveland State at the Reunion Resort in Reunion, Fla., on Feb. 11-12.
o Marquette was the only team at the match play to have all seven members of its team go undefeated.
· Notre Dame women finished seventh at the Seminole Match-Up Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla., Feb. 15-17
o Freshman Lindsey Weaver posted the top individual score for the Irish, finishing tied for eighth with a score of 218 overall (72-73-73).
o Three of the six teams that beat the Fighting Irish are nationally ranked.
