HARTFORD, Conn. – Nine different Marquette players registered a basket as the Golden Eagles (16-14) topped Pittsburgh (9-21) by the score of 66-43 in the First Round of the BIG EAST women’s basketball Championship presented by American Eagle Outfitters, held in the XL Center. Junior Katie Young led Marquette with 11 points, while junior Katherine Plouffe added 10.
The Golden Eagles led by one (16-15) with 8:45 left in the first half, then used an 18-4 run to open a 34-20 advantage. Marquette led 34-22 at halftime and never trailed in the second half.
With the win, No. 10 seed Marquette advanced to play No. 7 seed DePaul on Saturday, March 9 at 6 p.m., ET. The game will be televised on the BIG EAST Network across numerous regional sports networks including SNY. The contest also will be available free online at www.bigeast.tv
Marquette beat DePaul 70-66 on Feb. 2 at home during the regular-season.
