HARTFORD, Conn. – DePaul (21-10) beat Marquette 77-69 in the Second Round of the BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Championship presented by American Eagle Outfitters held at the XL Center. Senior Anna Martin scored a game-high 24 points and shot 9-of-14 from the field.
DePaul used a 17-4 run during the second half to pull away from Marquette capped by a 3-pointer from freshman Chanise Jenkins. Sophomore Brittany Hrynko added 17 points and was 8-of-10 from the free throw line.
The Blue Demons held a slim 35-34 lead at halftime.
Sophomore Arlesia Morse led Marquette (16-15) with 16 points.
Senior Katherine Harry had five blocks. It is the second time this year a DePaul player has had five blocks in a game. Freshman Megan Podkowa had five on Jan. 22 against Cincinnati.
With the win the No. 7 seed DePaul advances to play No. 2 seed Connecticut on Sunday, March 10 at 6 p.m., ET. The game will be televised on the BIG EAST Network across numerous regional sports networks including SNY. The contest also will be available free online at www.bigeast.tv
