BIG EAST Baseball Statistics
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Louisville right-handed pitcher Jeff Thompson and Notre Dame third-baseman Eric Jagielo earned BIG EAST Baseball awards this week. Thompson was named BIG EAST Baseball Pitcher of the Week in a 3-0 week for the Cardinals. Jagielo earned BIG EAST Baseball Player of the Week honors in a 2-1 week for the Fighting Irish.
Thompson was named BIG EAST Baseball Pitcher of the Week after pitching seven innings in a 6-0 win against Alabama on March 9. The junior allowed just two hits and struck out four batters. Thompson is currently 4-0 in 24.2 innings pitched this season with a 0.73 ERA.
Jagielo earned BIG EAST Player of the Week accolades for hitting two game-tying home runs. The junior hit his first home run against USC, tying the game 1-1 in the sixth inning. The Fighting Irish went on to win the game 2-1. Against No. 17 Oklahoma, Jagielo hit the equalizer in the fifth inning to make the score 4-4. Notre Dame won 6-5 against the Sooners in the 11th inning.
Ty Young, Louisville, Jr., IF
Young hit .455 last week against Alabama with three RBI and three runs scored. The junior hit a walk-off single to give the Cardinals an 8-7 victory in 10 innings in the second game of the series.
Dan Slania, Notre Dame, Jr., RHP
Slania came in for a victory and a save against USC and No. 17 Oklahoma. In five innings the junior allowed a batting average of just .167.
Boo Vazquez, Pittsburgh, So., OF
Vazquez went 6-for-12 last week in a 4-0 week for the Panthers. The sophomore also tallied a walk-off triple against Manhattan in a 6-5 win.
Steve Zavala, Rutgers, Sr., OF
Zavala went 6-for-10 with two home runs in a 1-2 week for the Scarlet Knights. The senior was on a 10-game hitting streak until the final game of the series against William & Mary.
Jon Prosinski, Seton Hall, Sr., RHP
Prosinski helped the Pirates earn their first win of the season against Pepperdine last Friday, pitching nine innings without walking a batter.
