Last night, Providence and USF outscored its IVY League opponents 14-0. The Friars scored in four of the five innings to claim a 9-0 win over Yale in their home opener while USF won its 16th straight game with a 5-0 win against Cornell.
Providence was led by sophomores Kelsi Luttrell and Shanelle Harrell. The duo connected on two three-run homeruns in the second and third innings respectively. Senior Corinne Clauss threw five scoreless innings and allowed just two hits to claim her second win on the year.
Junior Ashli Goff led the Bulls in their 5-0 win against the Big Red. The rightfielder went 3-for-4 from the plate as USF won its seventh straight shutout and 16th consecutive game overall.
BIG EAST teams are off Friday before beginning conference play tomorrow and Sunday. Saturday’s slate features five league doubleheaders with DePaul traveling to Providence, Seton Hall hosting Notre Dame, Georgetown hosting Villanova, St. John’s traveling to Pittsburgh, and Rutgers heading to USF.
