PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has announced the 2010 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Region teams and 17 BIG EAST student-athletes representing nine schools have been honored. A total of 256 players from 116 different institutions comprise this season’s regional teams, including first and second teams for each region.
Notre Dame led the way with five selections to the first and second teams in the Great Lakes Region, four of which earned first-team honors. BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year Jody Valdivia was a first-team selection. DePaul had three honorees including BIG EAST Rookie of the Year Bree Brown, who was selected to the second team in the Great Lakes Region.
Louisville and Syracuse each had two selections. BIG EAST Player of the year Chelsea Bemis was a second-team selection in the Great Lakes Region while the Orange, the 2010 BIG EAST Champions, were represented by Lisaira Daniels and Veronica Grant. Both outfielders were second-team honorees in the Mideast Region.
Rutgers, St. John’s, Seton Hall, USF and Villanova each had one player named to this year’s All-Region teams.
The All-Region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams. In addition, conference pitchers and players of the year not selected to the regional teams were added for All-America consideration.
